Bethany Library Centennial Art Premier Rescheduled
The Bethany Centennial Art Premier with artist Danny Gordon at Bethany Library has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at 1 p.m. The program originally scheduled for Jan. 30, 2010 was postponed due to the inclement weather. Four original paintings created by artist Danny Gordon especially for the library children’s area will be debuted.
The quartet of paintings depict four children exploring their dreams through the magic of books. Several notable children who grew up in Bethany are featured in the paintings such as Allie Reynolds, pitching great for the New York Yankees, and world record-setting astronaut Shannon Lucid.
Refreshments will feature a birthday cake to celebrate Bethany’s 100 years and Bethany Library’s 45th birthday.
Artist Danny Gordon has illustrated several children’s books and has offered drawing workshops for children at schools and libraries. Several years ago, he was commissioned by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries to do the artwork promoting the summer reading program in public libraries throughout the state. The commission for the new artwork at Bethany Library was made possible by a grant from the Friends of the Metropolitan Library System.
Artist Danny Gordon will also teach art classes for children ages 8-12 on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at 2 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. Reservations for the art classes can be made at the library information desk or by calling 789-8363, ext. 3.
