Exercise Your Mind: Friends of the Library Booksale

The 4th largest library booksale in the nation, Oklahoma County’s Metropolitan Library System Friends of the Library Booksale, will take place Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22 and 23, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds. Admission is free for both days. Friday, Feb. 21, will be a pre-sale party for members of the Friends from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The booksale will be held in the Oklahoma Expo Hall on the state fairgrounds. Those wishing to join the Friends may purchase memberships in the lobby the day of the pre-sale party from noon to 4:00 p.m. and again after 6:00 p.m. Annual dues are $10 for individual or family memberships (four tickets) and $6 for seniors (two tickets).

The booksale will offer more than 600,000 books covering a wide range of subjects including fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks, biographies, medical, westerns, romance, children’s, encyclopedias and reference books, plus a large selection of videos, DVDs and books on tape. In the General Section, hardbacks are $1 and paperbacks and magazines are $0.50 each. Books in Collectors’ Choice are individually priced, most less than $5.

Proceeds from the booksale are used to fund expenses not covered by the Metropolitan Library System’s budget such as additional computers, artwork, special programming, and many other needs. Over the years, the Friends have given more than $3.3 million in grants to the Metropolitan Library System.

Co-coordinators for this year’s booksale are Friends volunteers, Joe McReynolds and Larry Willrath.
