  • Han Solo Hides from Stormtoopers
Posted on: Tuesday, December 15, 2015

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters in a few days, and if you’re anything like the entire rest of the Internet, you’ve been hysterically excited about it since the summer of 2012. How are you ever going to make it one more hour, let alone days? Now, the obvious solution would be to read some Star Wars books to pass the time, but there are less than 300 of those. I’m sure you’ve read and re-read all of them too many times for them to provide much comfort. So instead, you tell me what you like best about Star Wars, and I’ll tell you what book you should be reading to find more of that. I’ll be giving recommendations in the comments, but for the sake of having a blog post to comment on, please welcome our crowd of imaginary patrons with conveniently phrased questions.

R2-D2, like many droids of few words, clearly leads a rich inner life. Whether he's electrocuting Kowakian monkey-lizards, performing last-minute hyperdrive repairs, or shutting down all the garbage mashers on the detention level, there's always the sense that he's the only one who really knows what's going on. What does he read when he's not saving the galaxy and letting some magical farm boy take all the credit? Let's find out!

Throwing off the trappings of her royal upbringing, Leia only managed to become a Galatic Senator and help orchestrate a galaxywide uprising against a supernaturally powerful tyrant. And oh yeah, the Force was strong in her family as witnessed by her brother and father becoming Jedi Knights so she had that going for her. Still, things weren't entirely a walk down easy street and who knew when you could be forced into a costume only a Hutt could dream up, i.e. a brass bikini. I have a few suggestions for one of the most powerful women in the galaxy that I'm confident she'll enjoy. I don't have a bad feeling about this.

In the swamps of Dagobah, much time for reading, watching DVDs, and listening to music there is. A few of Master Yoda’s favorites these are.

Not every bounty hunter can be cooler than an ice cream sandwich in winter on Hoth. In fact, there’s probably only one, and his name is Fett. Boba Fett. But when he’s not out bustin’ dudes for a big pay day, even the most dangerous bounty hunter in the galaxy needs to unwind.

When I was teenager I was really into riot grrl music. It made me feel empowered and stronger at a time when I did not feel at all confident with myself. Riot grrl made me realize that there was a whole big world outside of my own little teenage bubble and that instead of just sitting around feeling melancholy about all things, I could actually organize my feelings, find like-minded people, and attempt to make some changes to the ways of the world. Along with listening to the music, I also began to read everything I could about strong women and I still do. I have read two books lately that are extremely relevant and inspiring. Read on...and make a difference.

Some day, C-3PO will have the time to sit down and read a book or listen to a CD without being rudely interrupted by Stormtroopers, insolent astromechs, or those awful Jawas. When that happens, he knows exactly what he's going to check out, thanks to the staff at the Metro Library!

Life can be hard growing up on a desert planet. Even though Luke dreams of one day leaving Tatooine and attending the Academy, he still has work to do on Uncle Owen’s moisture farm. Here are a few recommendations to help Luke take care of his chores, discover his family’s past, and prepare for his future.

We tried making suggestions for Han Solo but being Mr. Know-It-All, he took over and decided to tell us what he wants to read, watch, or listen to. Jeez, this guy is a stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf-herder.

When recommending to a Wookiee what to read, watch, listen to, or use, one does so very carefully. Wookiees are known throughout the galaxy not only for their intellect but also for their violent, dismembery tempers. Wookiees are also known as an honor-bound culture so I hope Chewie sees these recommendations as worthy of a life debt to the library.
